KMART | CORE CLOSET CAPSULE

Core closet pieces / Capsule building

A capsule wardrobe is selecting several items in which you can mix and match, and thus creating multiple looks with less. There can be many variations when creating a capsule, whether it be a past or upcoming seasonal, sticking with basics and or everyday wear, occasional wear, workwear etc. A capsule wardrobe will always include a few items that are your go to, you know you look and feel your absolute best in and particularly the 'core closet' capsule will hold these valuable - feel good pieces.

Q: How do I begin?

Firstly, pick what the capsule creation is for.  In my example / this post, I've a one branded - everyday wear capsule. And because I'm curious, comment below what you decided to create!

Once you have a core capsule built, you can later on add in extras, say a cardigan, vest etc, as you'll have the basic foundation to have everything you need, that anything more is an added bonus.

Make sure you try everything on - do not - keep something as motivation to lose weight / or it'll fit me better eventually.. try to avoid leading this process into creating a toxic capsule and project.. it is important to make sure you're using items that spark, bring you joy, make you comfortable, confident and feel 100% you!

Q: What do I need?

Once you know what type of theme you'll be creating looks for/with, it's best to grab a minimum of 1-3 per item type eg: top, bottom, outwear, dress, shoes and an optional selection would be accessories; as you may already own basic essentials, this item may not be needed to buy, but can be used within your capsule.

One thing to be mindful of is owning basic essentials, which are always in style and are the core of your outfits, especially in solid colours, as they're the foundation we build our wardrobes upon and leads on to the next point..

Q: Colours or prints?

Why not mix and match. Grab a solid and a print, depending on the pattern you choose, try to go with a palette that goes best together.  Unsure of what to use? Go over to my Pinterest for some colour inspo

Q: I've got my pieces, now what?

Start taking photos!  Sadly we don't all have a Cher Horowitz closet to have instant visuals, but at least in this day and age, mostly everyone has a phone in hand that's easily accessible.

Take photos (have fun doing this too!), print off what you pieced together for your reference and in turn making your daily selection process for an outfit so much quicker / less stressful for your future self.

Q: Okay.. so what's the pro in doing this?

It's optional.. and of course it's not essential, however I'm confident in saying that doing this, it's helpful.  Even if you created only one capsule.. least you can trial it out to see if it works for you or not.  No harm trying, even if you work with what you got and not have to go out to spend anymore $$, in turn saving yourself time n money. Or, perhaps it'll make it easier to budget to go out and buy the missing basic(s).

I know I'm not alone with this feeling, where I honestly hate wasting time on wardrobe breakdowns, when I feel I've got nothing to wear.. the problem isn't because there's nothing, it's because there's too much choice. By creating a capsule, you'll save yourself time, and have made yourself an easier selection process.

Maybe a future post I'll show off how I sort my wardrobe, however this is a personal process, as we all have different spaces and ways we like to present garments.. so it'd be my way of doing it and whether it helps / inspires you or not :) let me know if you'd be interested.
