KMART | NEUTRAL OOTD

NEUTRAL STYLING | EFFORTLESS

I love going through my wardrobe when putting together pieces for a styling post on my Instagram.  It's focusing on making the most of what you've got, by mixing and matching, to see what fun looks you can whip up.

I'll raise my hand and make a confession - I nearly made the mistake of placing an online order for this Kmart "Sleeveless True Knit Tunic", however.. I already own it and avoided spending a pointless $15.

I'd made the purchase prior to Victoria's lockdown (6.0? - I can't keep up), and naturally when you're always wearing loungewear, or something a little lowkey, it's an easy mistake to make by forgetting everything you own.

To my delight of discovering the top I forgot I had.. I opted to pair it with an older seasonal piece from Kmart with a linen blazer, which I grabbed on sale at the time for only $12.  Along with the Cotton On pants, from last year, I think, or the one prior... it's terrible that the past year or so feels it's all a blur.

Either way, they've been around a while, which means money well spent and avoiding falling into a pit of the fast fashion mistakes when following trends, which I don't always follow at it's peak time.

I thrive with the challenges I set when coming up with my own style and looks and prefer doing my own thing and love the process of styling from start to finish.  It's just so satisfying reusing pieces to make effortless casual/chic options, without having to feel the need to spend more money.

By doing your own style, and trends, you become confident in yourself and your own abilities.  It's all with practice, trial and error.  You discover what works for you and what doesn't, so you know what to avoid in future.  You can see inspiration but remember, always be yourself and what makes you 100% confident.. you get me? :)

I dislike any feeling of comparison, which I feel comes from following trends and without realising, trying to be like everyone else.. we can sometimes fall victim and down a rabbit hole of self doubt, or obsessing over what someone else has or is doing, that we're not necessarily on the same level with etc.  It becomes a little too full on and best not to fall in that trap.  Please remember, we're all amazing and unique in our own way.

The positive spin and simple trick is.. if you do want to follow trends, always sprinkle a bit of your own persona and twist to your styles, something that makes a look indefinable and associated to you.  See for me, I've always loved stripes, so my go to was stripes & black & white.. but now I'm trying to branch out!

A Q for YOU:
What's something you always wear, a statement piece, or colour, that you can incorporate when you create your daily looks or styles?  Keeping in mind you don't ALWAYS have to feature it..
